Poem Red

Recently, Liljana Paulonie Adams (Miwok/Nisenan/Konkow/Hawaiian) wowed the audience at the premiere of the musical “Something Inside is Broken” and at Sierra College’s Indigenous Peoples’ Days when she read her poetry. The poem she read not only gives voice to the Native women who were silenced after contact, but also balanced the unheard voices of the land.

Liljana recently graduated from Sierra College in Rocklin with two Associate degrees in Psychology. She plans to continue her studies for another year at Sierra College, where she has been newly elected as the Native American Club Chairwoman. In the coming years, she plans to continue her education in psychology at the University of California, and use her knowledge to bring healing through culturally responsive therapy to her Native communities. One of Liljana’s greatest accomplishments, in her own words, is being a mother to four boys and a little girl who are the light of her life.
