DESCRIPTION:Please join the California Truth & Healing Council for an in-person Regional Hearing in Los Angeles on Wednesday\, December 4th from 12:00pm-4:00pm at the Autry Museum. \nRegional Hearings are typically a half day meeting and are an opportunity for tribes to provide testimony on record to the Council or can be an opportunity for California Native Americans to provide testimony on specific issues that may be unique to the region. All convenings of the Council are open to the general public; however\, participation of local California Native Americans will be prioritized during the meeting. \nThis meeting will be fully in-person with no hybrid option (recording will be posted to the Governor’s Office of Tribal Affairs YouTube page afterwards). The council is grateful to be hosted by The Autry Museum for this event. DESCRIPTION:Join Workshops for Gaza for their second online poetry reading featuring Indigenous poetic geniuses Natalie Diaz\, Jamaica Heolimeleikalani Osorio and Leanne Betasamosake Simpson. The reading will be followed by a short moderated discussion. \nNatalie Diaz is Mojave and an enrolled member of the Gila River Indian community. She is the author of the poetry collections Postcolonial Love Poem\, which won the Pulitzer Prize and was a finalist for the National Book Award\, and When My Brother Was an Aztec. She teaches at Arizona State University. \nJamaica Heolimeleikalani is a Kanaka Maoli poet and the author of Remembering our Intimacies: Moʻolelo\, Aloha ʻĀina\, and Ea. She is an associate professor of Indigenous and Native Hawaiian politics at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. \nLeanne Betasamosake Simpson is a Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg writer\, musician\, intellectual and member of Alderville First Nation. DESCRIPTION:On December 14th\, come to the Vista Audubon Society Wetlands Reserve\, Payómkawichum territory\, to experience “Returning to Our Homelands.” This project works to re-connect Indigenous young people and their families to their original Payόmkawichum homelands and territories\, and is brought about through collaboration of ‘ataaxum Pomkwaan\, BVAS\, and the San Luis Rey Band of Mission Indians.\n\n\nLook forward to opening remarks delivered by the San Luis Rey River Tribal Council\, a walk of the estuary\, a speaker panel featuring leaders from  non-profit\, binational Kumeyaay organization Tipey Joa and Mixtec communities\, and a delightful light meal offered by Jardin Mixteco\, ‘ataaxum Pomkwaan and San Luis Rey.\n\n\n\n\nDialogue during the event will be centered on the resilience practices of Indigenous peoples confronting forced displacement on their territories.
