Personal and collective stories interweave with Indigenous knowledge in global reciprocity. \nThis project includes:\n• Four ~20-minute poetic Documentary Profiles profiling key Indigenous leaders in this movement\n• Eight long-form Oral Histories delving into Indigenous knowledge\, leaders’ life experiences\, pivotal relationships\, events and protocols \nThese videos are for Indigenous communities seeking greater economic and narrative sovereignty; philanthropists and policy-makers seeking greater equity; and for teachers and youth seeking Indigenous knowledge and wisdom. All videos — from Indonesia\, Kenya\, Nicaragua\, Mexico\, France and Turtle Island — were filmed in collaboration with local Indigenous communities and videographers\, who collaborated in the 2-year participatory production process of documentary production training and collective story crafting. \nThis project is a partnership between Tamalpais Trust\, The Cultural Conservancy\, Pawanka Fund\, Aliansi Masyarakat Adat Nusantara (Indonesia)\, Centro para la Autonomía y Desarollo de los Pueblos Indígenas (Nicaragua)\, and Kivulini Trust (Kenya).

Stories of their own family’s relationship to the Land as well as the shared stories of migration and ways of life in the mountains\, canyons and the valley that have been shared by Cahuilla and specifically Agua Caliente people for countless generations\, inform the photographic process.

DESCRIPTION:Date: March 8 – 9\, 2025\nNEW LOCATION: INTRAMURAL RUGBY AND SOCCER FIELDS \nCalifornia State University\, Long Beach’s annual Pow Wow at Puvungna\, an American Indian social celebration\, is the largest spring event of its kind in Southern California. The Pow Wow is focused on displaying the university’s strong American Indian presence. Admission and parking are free. \nThe two-day event\, which will feature American Indian dancing\, arts\, crafts and food begins at 11 AM each day and runs until 10 PM on Saturday and 7 PM on Sunday. In addition to dance contests and inter-tribal dancing\, there will be California Indian Cultural Presentations\, Gourd dancing with Dancer Registration closing at 2 PM on Saturday. All dancers and drums are invited. \nNative foods\, such as mutton and beef stew\, Navajo tacos\, fry bread\, and Indian burgers will be on sale at the event\, and American Indian vendors will be selling both traditional and contemporary American Indian art. \nA campus map and directions can be found at www.csulb.edu/map.

DESCRIPTION:Listen and learn about the findings of the California Truth and Healing Council investigation of the lasting effects of the genocide committed against California Native Americans. In 2019\, the California Truth and Healing Council (CTHC) was created after Governor Newsom recognized and formally apologized for the genocide committed against Native American people in the early days of California statehood. Through present-day oral histories and revisiting early documents\, the CTHC will present an official report on its findings to clarify the past and recommend possible avenues of restorative justice. \nIn addition to the report\, the CTHC has engaged Jacob Kornbluth\, an Emmy-winning director of TV\, film\, and theater\, to produce the documentary film\, “We’re Still Here.” The film follows California Tribal Affairs Secretary Christina Snider-Ashtari (Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians) and Deputy Tribal Affairs Secretary Loretta Miranda (Morongo Band of Mission Indians)\, two California Native women who lead and convene the Council.
