DESCRIPTION:The California Center for Native Nations (CCNN)\, in collaboration with the Department of Media and Cultural Studies (MCS)\, invites you to the Indigenous Truthtelling Symposium & Art Exhibit. This one-day gathering honors artists\, poets\, writers\, scholars\, and journalists who dedicate their lives to truth-telling in the face of ongoing violence. SUMMARY:Exhibition Walk-through: Fire Kinship
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special exhibition walk-through of Fire Kinship with Silvia Forni\, Shirley and Ralph Shapiro Director of the Fowler Museum at UCLA. The exhibition focuses on the important kinship ties that connect Indigenous communities to the land\, and on the inextricable connection between ecological knowledge\, spirituality\, and creative expression. \nSilvia Forni joined the Fowler Museum as Shirley and Ralph Shapiro Director in December 2022. At the Fowler she is leading a team of dedicated scholars and museum professionals deeply invested in presenting underrepresented artists and art histories and curating exhibitions and programs with and for the international communities of greater Los Angeles. Before moving to LA\, she served as senior curator of global Africa and deputy vice president of the Department of Art & Culture at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. DESCRIPTION:In this group art exhibit\, The Cultural Conservancy has convened Indigenous artists to explore what connects and intersects Indigenous communities\, showcasing their unique perspectives\, traditions\, and artistic expressions\, fostering a sense of solidarity and shared purpose. By weaving together the diverse threads of Indigenous experience\, we create a tapestry of unity and strength. \n12+ artists working in contemporary and traditional media are displaying selected artworks in Tides Converge\, China Brotsky Gallery in the Presidio as well as in a digital catalogue at nativeland.org. \nThe Cultural Conservancy is committed to Native arts\, media and knowledge-sharing through exhibitions\, workshops\, writing and study.
