SUMMARY:Sierra Mono Museum 53rd Annual Indian Fair Days & Pow Wow
DESCRIPTION:Public welcome\, food & craft vendors\, dance competition! \nA Pow Wow\, or cultural celebration\, as it was called in former times\, is a truly family event growing out of the economic\, social\, and cultural experiences of many Native American tribes. Pow Wows allow people to come together to sing\, dance\, make friends\, renew old friendships\, and enjoy arts and crafts. To many people today\, pow wows have spiritual and religious significance. Some people can trace the word “Pow wow” to the Algonquin language\, saying how the Europeans used the word to refer to a council meeting. \nToday\, Pow Wows have become an inter-tribal event and are a time when older customs and ways are brought to the present day and age. It is more than just Indians dancing and singing. These cultural events help to solidify Indian communities as well as provide an opportunity to teach and learn many traditional customs. Pow wows are held throughout the year\, but mainly in the summertime when participants and spectators have more space to explore and practice singing and dancing. \n  \nFor more information: \nPhone: (559) 877-2115 \nEmail: monomuseum@gmail.com

SUMMARY:2025 San Manuel Pow Wow
DESCRIPTION:San Manuel Pow Wow is a three-day celebration free to the public and features Southern California traditional bird singers and dancers\, as well as North American and Canadian dancers and drum singing groups. In addition\, there is also vending from artisans representing Indian tribal nations from all across North America and Canada. \nSince its beginning in 1996\, the San Manuel Pow Wow has remained a celebration of Indigenous cultures and a symbol or Indigenous resiliency–open to all in the spirit of friendship. \nDuring the three-day event\, the Pow Wow is a sacred space where people from across Indian Country can share their traditions\, spirituality and individual style through sounds\, motion and art. Native American dishes–such as crowd-favorite foods like fry bread–as well as a diverse array of authentic Native American traditional crafts and fine art will be available for purchase from vendors. \nThe San Manuel Pow Wow has grown to be one of the largest in Southern California with more than 20\,000 attendees. It’s free and open to the public. It’s also a reflection of the generosity of the Tribe. As Cruz Chacon did from the start\, San Manuel feeds all dancers and singers over the course of the gathering. Dancers and drum groups pay no entry fees\, and the prize money is generous. Vendors also pay no booth fees. It is a showcase of Indigenous cultures–a symbol of resilience and a builder of understanding between Native and non-Native communities. \nSan Manuel is proud to present more than $250\,000 in cash prizes\, which will be awarded to contestants competing in the Native American dancing and singing competitions. \nThe tribe looks forward to hosting Native American relatives: dancers\, drum groups\, vendors\, spectators\, and honored guests to celebrate the very best of Indian Country. \nFor more information\, contact: powwow@sanmanuel.com \nFor vendor information contact: powwowsanmanuelvendor@gmail.com

DESCRIPTION:  \nDate: March 14 – 15\, 2026\nNEW LOCATION: INTRAMURAL RUGBY AND SOCCER FIELDS\nPresented by the American Indian Studies Program\, American Indian Student Council\, American Indian Student Services\, Division of Student Affairs\, Student Life and Development\, and Associated Students\, Inc. \nCalifornia State University\, Long Beach’s annual Pow Wow at Puvungna\, an American Indian social celebration\, is the largest spring event of its kind in Southern California. The Pow Wow is focused on displaying the university’s strong American Indian presence. Admission and parking are free. \nThe two-day event\, which will feature American Indian dancing\, arts\, crafts and food begins at 11 AM each day and runs until 10 PM on Saturday and 6 PM on Sunday. In addition to dance contests and inter-tribal dancing\, there will be California Indian Cultural Presentations\, Gourd dancing with Dancer Registration closing at 2 PM on Saturday. All dancers and drums are invited. \nNative foods\, such as mutton and beef stew\, Navajo tacos\, fry bread\, and Indian burgers will be on sale at the event\, and American Indian vendors will be selling both traditional and contemporary American Indian art. \nA campus map and directions can be found at www.csulb.edu/map. \n_______________________________________________ \nA message from this year’s powwow t-shirt designer: \n“Shiyáx Máyts’ki (Good Day)👋🏼 !! \nI’m Maral Nazarian-Peters (Yakama/Navajo)\, the designer for the 2026 LB Pow Wow at Puvungna t-shirt! I was honored to be asked by the committee to design the shirt for the 3rd year in a row. \nAs an homage to where we started\, this year’s shirt design showcases the olive tree where generations of dancers have circled around for over 50 years. The design includes a dancer with a mortar board to signify our Native students in higher-ed that continue to uplift our communities. I had the help of our committee and mentor Art Neri in finding the right way to showcase the legacy our Native Community has built on campus. \nWe hope to continue our tradition down in the Intramural Rugby Field for this next generation of dancers to continue the LB Pow Wow at Puvungna legacy !! 🪶”
