He has been an adjunct instructor for Weaving Earth\, an organization dedicated to reconnecting humans to each other and to the Earth. Also an artist (drawing\, painting\, and sculpture)\, he has recently illustrated a children’s book\, The Adventures of Two Coast Miwok Children. \nAmythest Faria (Lakota\, Irish\, Welsh) is a regenerative farmer\, herbalist\, educator\, mother and grandmother. Born in Berkeley and raised off grid in the mountains and valleys of the ancestral lands of the Kashia Pomo and the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria\, she grew up close to the land\, creeks and forests of Sonoma County learning about the wild edible and medicinal plants that grew in abundance around her. Throughout her career she has focused on youth and adult education utilizing traditional land practices and food sovereignty to uplift and encourage healthy lifeways. Over the years\, she is honored to have developed curriculum for various regenerative agricultural programs throughout the region\, medicinal plant workshops\, naturalist trainings\, organic gardening\, and land stewardship\, and to be continuing to grow and deepen that work with TCC.

At the Fowler she is leading a team of dedicated scholars and museum professionals deeply invested in presenting underrepresented artists and art histories and curating exhibitions and programs with and for the international communities of greater Los Angeles. Before moving to LA\, she served as senior curator of global Africa and deputy vice president of the Department of Art & Culture at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. Isaac Bojorquez serves on the Native American Heritage Commission\, a state agency that supports the protection of California tribal cultural resources. He is the only representative from a California tribe without federal recognition. He held several positions at the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation between 2000 and 2021\, including Director of Cultural Resources. Bojorquez is an enrolled member of and has been Tribal Chairman for the KaKoon Ta Ruk Band of Ohlone-Costanoan Indians of the Big Sur Rancheria since 2018. She and other subject matter experts will address the systemic failures that perpetuate the MMIP crisis in both traditional and urban communities\, and recognized and unrecognized tribes. \nTraining modules include: Feather Alert System criteria\, the intersection of MMIP with human trafficking and other violent crimes\, jurisdictional conflicts that impede investigations\, and a presentation of culturally appropriate services available to victims and their families. This is the first MMIP-focused training initiative to qualify for official Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification in the State of California. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special reading and talk with author-illustrator Weshoyot Alvitre\, featuring her heartfelt picture book Brave. The story follows a Native American boy proudly growing out his hair and learning from his family that braids are powerful\, beautiful\, and deeply meaningful. Told through a tender father–son relationship\, Brave explores the painful legacy of colonization—when Native children were forced to cut their hair and abandon their cultural practices—and affirms Indigenous pride and history. Each morning\, a father gently brushes and braids his son’s hair. Despite teasing at school and the discomfort of hair tugging\, the boy draws strength from family stories and traditions\, ultimately finding that his long hair makes him feel brave. The event will begin with a talk by Alvitre on the historical context and creative process behind the book; it will be followed by a live reading of Brave and discussion in the courtyard. We will end with a reception and book signing.
