Her first feature length film\, Gush\, premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2023. For 2022-2024\, she is a Vera List Center Borderlands Fellow. In 2020\, COUSIN Collective supported the director with her first grant. Fox’s work has screened at MoMA\, TIFF\, Rotterdam and BlackStar Film Festival. What’s the truth behind the smoke? \n“Saging” has become common in movies\, TV shows\, social media\, and cleansing rituals \n–people burning sage bundles in the hope of purifying space and clearing bad energy. \nInstead of healing\, the appropriated use of saging in popular culture is having a \nharmful effect. \n  \nIndigenous communities have tended a relationship with white sage for thousands of \ngenerations. White sage (Salvia apiana) only occurs in southern California and northern \nBaja California\, Mexico. Today\, poachers are stealing metric tons of this plant from the \nwild to supply international demand. DESCRIPTION:UC Berkeley\, which sits on native territory and was built with funds from stolen native lands\, has a dishearteningly low representation of Native American undergraduate students\, accounting for just 0.04% of the student body. The Native students who do gain admission to Berkeley must confront a culture that often negates indigenous forms of knowledge\, all while housing thousands of native human remains intended for scholarly study.
