DESCRIPTION:Join the American Indian Cultural District (AICD) for the opening reception and film screening of “Elevating Untold Stories & Native Resilience Through Art & Placekeeping in Yelamu\,” marking the opening of the Mapping Genocide Exhibition at the San Francisco Public Library’s Koret Auditorium on Wednesday\, September 9\, 2026\, from 5:00–7:00 PM. \nRSVP here: https://tinyurl.com/j6pzhaks  \nThe Mapping Genocide Exhibition\, on view September 4\, 2026–January 21\, 2027\, examines San Francisco’s legacy of commemorating the ideologies and individuals who spearheaded the genocide and displacement of American Indians through public art in the San Francisco Civic Art Collection\, as well as through street and place names throughout San Francisco. \nThrough visual art by artists Jackie Fawn and Edward “Redbird” Willie\, physical mapping\, and documented interviews\, this interactive exhibition examines whose histories have been celebrated and memorialized in San Francisco’s public realm—and whose have been erased. \nCentering Native perspectives\, Mapping Genocide confronts difficult truths about the city’s history while elevating American Indian cultures\, histories\, lived experiences\, and resilience.
