His powerful images document a rich array of Indigenous experiences\, from the breathtaking California landscapes to gatherings\, ceremonies\, and the artistry of basket weaving. \nThis collection honors and showcases moments of profound cultural significance and weaves together the stories of resilience and unyielding vitality that define contemporary Native life. More than simple documents\, his photographs radiate a sense of quiet but determined celebration and resistance. Drawing from Aguilar’s extensive photographic archive\, gifted to OMCA by his family in 2022\, the exhibition brings these images to life through video\, audio\, and narratives from Indigenous artists\, activists\, elders\, and community members.

DESCRIPTION:Say Uncle is a sculptural installation of photographic works made by lens based artist\, Marcus Xavier Chormicle\, (Agua Caliente Band Of Cahuilla Indians\, Lineal Descendant) with his uncle\, Michael Dean Chormicle (Agua Caliente Band Of Cahuilla Indians\, Enrolled Member)\, on their ancestral homeland on the Agua Caliente Indian Reservation. \nThe imagery addresses lessons and stories shared with Marcus through his family that have shaped how they perceive their homeland. Stories of their own family’s relationship to the Land as well as the shared stories of migration and ways of life in the mountains\, canyons and the valley that have been shared by Cahuilla and specifically Agua Caliente people for countless generations\, inform the photographic process.
