“a Cahuilla man”: Conversation about Rupert Costo and the Society

Dr. Rose Soza War Soldier (Mountain Maidu/Cahuilla/Luiseño) is an enrolled member of Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians. She completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in History with a double minor in Political Science and Social/Ethnic Relations at University of California, Davis and earned a Doctoral degree in History with an emphasis in American Indian History from Arizona State University. She is a Native American Studies assistant professor in Ethnic Studies department at Sacramento State University. She has published in “News From Native California” and has a chapter entitled, “tilted history is too often taught”: Activism, Advocacy, and Restoring Humanity in Ka’m-t’em: A Journey Toward Healing published by Pechanga’s Great Oak Press and more information may be found at kamtem-indigenousknowledge.com. Her research and teaching focus on twentieth century American Indian activism, social and cultural history, politics, education, and social justice.
