Dr. Deborah Miranda: One Book, One University

Dr. Deborah Miranda is a Native American writer, poet, and professor. Miranda is a descendant of what are known as “Mission Indians,” indigenous peoples of many Southern California tribes who were forcibly removed from their land into several Franciscan missions.
The College of Arts and Sciences has selected author Deborah A. Miranda’s book Bad Indians: A Tribal Memoir as the 2022-23 academic year selection for One Book, One University.
This year’s selection is the winner of the:
- 2015 PEN Oakland-Josephone Miles Library Award.
- Gold Metal for Autobiography/Memoir from the 2014 Independent Publisher Book Awards.
- (Shortlisted for the) 2014 William Saroyan International Prize for Writing.
