Ipai Hellya/2Spirit & Indigiqueer Resilience

February 15 @ 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM

Join ‘ataaxum Pomkwaan, @unitedataaxum.yc and @jreynoso25 ( @thequeersol ) at a workshop on Ipai Hellyaa, Two Spirit & IndigeQueer Resilience. “Ipai Hellyaa” (ee-pye shlah) means Moon People in the Kumeyaay language, and according to Juan Reynoso “in a modern context, it means genderqueer, gender expansive and anything that exists outside of the binary.” We will be learning more about what it means to be Queer from a Native and Indigenous peoples perspective. Watch and discuss the short animated film “Aikane” based on a Queer Kanaka Maoli love story and have a report back from the ‘ataaxum Pomkwaan delegation that attended @baaits_sf 2S Powwow in San Francisco this past weekend.
🌈
This workshop is the first one in a series of political education workshops that ‘ataaxum Pomkwaan and United ‘ataaxum will be co-hosting during the winter and spring seasons. We encourage local Native and Indigenous youth ages 12 to 25 to join us at these political education series.
