Native American Music and Dance Conference

Dance, music, and storytelling– these traditional forms are the basis of Native cultural expression and a foundation for Indigenous people to embody collective voices and affirm individual tribal identities. Traditions are also languages, ceremonies, and Elders. Methods are dance, music, theater, and comedy. Praxis is the practice of the old and the new– contemporary rituals respecting ancestral ways. Native people have found strength in tradition, sustenance and healing through stories, and a future in creating new artistic pathways. The conference is a forum to privilege Indigenous perspectives and first-person narratives through Native ways of knowing and a gathering place to showcase the achievements of contemporary Native performing artists and professional practitioners.
