Protecting Native American Graves and Artifacts Zoom
October 25, 2022 @ 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM
Protecting tribal cultural resources, including artifacts and funerary objects, presents a challenge, for tribes and those who wish to help preserve an important legacy, and also for developers, governments, and landowners who must comply with requirements. In this session, you will learn the basics of the federal Native American Grave Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) and the related California statute, CalNAGPRA. Attendees will learn about these laws, gain an overview of repatriation procedures, and learn how to approach issues of protection and repatriation with cultural sensitivity. This class is intended for private attorneys, government workers, tribal members, and anyone with an interest in this important subject.
Presented by: Honorable Christine Williams (Yurok), Chief Judge, Wilton Rancheria Tribal Court
Location: Los Angeles County Law Library via Zoom
