Say Uncle

Say Uncle is a sculptural installation of photographic works made by lens based artist, Marcus Xavier Chormicle, (Agua Caliente Band Of Cahuilla Indians, Lineal Descendant) with his uncle, Michael Dean Chormicle (Agua Caliente Band Of Cahuilla Indians, Enrolled Member), on their ancestral homeland on the Agua Caliente Indian Reservation.

The imagery addresses lessons and stories shared with Marcus through his family that have shaped how they perceive their homeland. Stories of their own family’s relationship to the Land as well as the shared stories of migration and ways of life in the mountains, canyons and the valley that have been shared by Cahuilla and specifically Agua Caliente people for countless generations, inform the photographic process.
