In Payómkawichum, We’éqlapish is a complex word, but roughly translates to an act of disputing/disagreeing with something. When using it, you’re letting it be known you don’t agree with someone’s words or actions against you. It’s pretty open-ended, and can be applied to so many instances: A government that wants to eradicate us, an ex who doesn’t respect us, etc. It’s relevant to the energy we are bringing to this event, actively using our words/poetry to stand up for ourselves. In short; We aren’t gonna go down that easy.)
