California Indian Day is observed annually on the fourth Friday of September. This state holiday not only honors tribal communities but also offers a chance to explore the diverse tribal cultures, history, and heritage of California. The American Indian Studies Center at UCLA is pleased to celebrate this occasion by hosting a Zoom session featuring Carla Marie and Desiree Muñoz, tribal members of the Costanoan Rumsen Carmel Tribe of Northern California. You are invited to join them on Zoom as they present the history and contemporary knowledge of the Ohlone people through an engaging afternoon filled with storytelling, art, music, and prayer. The sisters serve as cultural stewards of the Costanoan Rumsen Carmel Tribe, facilitating the sharing of past, present, and emerging Ohlone knowledge.
